Mr. Ralph Dickerson, Jr. was employed at United Way of New York City in the position of President and Director and is a current Director at NYC2012, Inc. Under Mr. Dickerson's leadership, United Way of New York City has grown to become not only the largest private funder of human services in New York City, but also one of the largest United Ways in the nation. Since Mr. Dickerson joined United Way of New York City, the organization has increased its revenue from $75.01 million in 1989 to $143.1 million in 2001 while trimming its operation expenses to less than 14% of revenues. The organization also has become a significant proactive force for change, forging a variety of innovative alliances to effectively address some of the city's biggest human service challenges, such as the Community Achievement Project in the Schools (CAPS) program, the Women and Families with HIV/AIDS Initiative, and, in conjunction with The New York Community Trust, The September 11th Fund. Mr. Dickerson has held key executive positions for 33 years in local United Ways, including St. Louis, Missouri (1970-76), Madison, Wisconsin (1977-81), Cleveland, Ohio (1981-84), and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1984-88).
