José M Bosch

The son of a Spanish banker and sugar mill owner who made his fortune in Cuba. He went to work in one of his father's sugar mills. The younger Mr. Bosch quickly rose in the industry, but a plunge in sugar prices in the early 1920s forced him to change careers and take a bookkeeper's job at the Havana branch of the First National City Bank of New York. He rebuilt his fortune and married Enriqueta Schueg Bacardi, a member of the family that founded the Bacardi Corp. in 1862. He ran the Bacardi rum empire for 32 years until his retirement in 1976. Mr. Bosch moved to Coral Gables Florida from Nassau in 1992.
