Sits on board of family's engineering firm Thermax. Worked in company from 1985; took charge when her husband died in 1996. Was chairman until 2004 when she stepped down , making way for daughter Meher, a UK-trained chemical engineer, who now chairs. She devotes time to social causes, primarily education. She cofounded Teach for India in 2008, a non-profit that recruits young people to teach for 2 years in schools for low-income kids. Also supports and sits on board of Akanksha Foundation, an education charity.
