Bernard Joei is Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Alternative Asset Management and Head of Alternatives and Global Real Estate. Prior to joining Zurich, Bernard Joei was a Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Horizon21, an alternative asset manager based in Switzerland. Bernard Joei began his career in 1979 at Kidder, Peabody & Co. in New York, first in convertible securities and later in equity derivatives, where he was elected Principal and Senior Vice President. In 1988 he joined Swiss Bank Corporation Investment Banking (now UBS), as Managing Director and Member of the Management Committee, co-heading US equity research, sales and trading. In 1992 Bernard Joei founded Cathay Financial, an independent research firm and institutional broker-dealer focused on special situations including spin-offs, restructurings and merger arbitrage. In 2000, he founded Benten Capital, a global event-driven single hedge fund based in New York. Bernard Joei holds both a BA and an MBA from the University of Southern California. He is a former Vice Chairman and current Board Member of the Committee of 100, a national, nonpartisan organization dedicated to encouraging stronger relations between the US and Greater China. Bernard Joei was born in 1956. He is married and lives with his family in New Jersey, United States.
