| Notes | From 1838 to 1840 Forbes tried unsuccessfully to revive his brother Bennet's bankrupt Farrandsville Coal and Iron Company. Later Forbes and Erastus Corning of Albany bought the Mount Savage (Maryland) Ironworks for $200,000. In 1844 they added a rolling mill which produced the first iron rail in America. |
