Notes Manager Company NameWest Philly Hybrid X Team Dates EmployedMay 2007 – Present Employment Duration11 yrs Location221 Soouth Hanson Street I began working with the School District’s Automotive Technology programs in 1993 when AFSCME and the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Fleet Management created an Internship and Apprenticeship Program that offered a pathway from high school to full-time city employment for Philadelphia students. Through my work I became a member of, and then Chair of the Advisory Board for the West Philadelphia Automotive Program. In 2000, Simon Hauger asked me to help fundraise to send his team of inner city students to the national Tour de Sol, a national alternative fuel vehicle road race. Thus began my relationship with the EVX Team. In 2007, after multiple victories in the Tour de Sol, the EVX Team entered the Progressive Automotive X PRIZE. I became Team Manager, a position I still hold. The EVX Team was the only high school team in this $10 million international competition. Between 2008 and 2010, we raised over $400,000, built two cars, traveled all over with our students, made it to the semi-finals of the competition, outperforming 91 other teams, and were invited to the White House, where President Barack Obama lauded our work. In 2011, the EVX Team won the Green Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, NY. In 2012, we won our division athe Grand Prix. In 2014, we will return to Watkins Glen with a car that is currently under construction at the Workshop School.
