Danya oversaw training for the IRC’s US Programs department and led Project Strengthening Organizations Assisting Refugees (SOAR), a federally-funded technical assistance program. Within IRC, she designed and analyzed assessments to identify the development needs of 160 job developers, career coaches, instructors, and program managers in 17 US locations and led a training team and a group of field-based subject matter experts to implement and evaluate the resulting training plan. In her work with SOAR, she cultivated clients, identified learning needs and developed plans to address them, recruited and guided trainers, led workshops on proposal writing and program design, and facilitated local partnership development. Danya also managed funder relationships, including ACS/HHS/Office of Refugee Resettlement; secured private foundation funding to expand SOAR’s services to six organizations; supervised teams of MA degree candidates from The New School and NYU Stern; and developed and facilitated workshops on SMART objectives in a variety of venues, including the 2009 ACS/Office of Refugee Resettlement Annual Conference. As the first individual to hold this position, Danya collaborated with senior staff to develop the job description, scope of responsibility, and annual goals. Among her accomplishments, Danya founded an advisory committee that built partnerships with local employers and training partners and became a model for other IRC resettlement offices. She designed a resource development plan, growing corporate and foundation revenue by 400% in 2 years and led a proposal development team to secure a five-year, $1.5 mm grant to help refugee youth adjust to their new communities and succeed academically. She then cultivated individual donors and private foundations to provide supplemental support for youth afterschool, weekend, and summer programs. She also prepared analyses for donors, headquarters staff, and other stakeholders; coordinated semiannual fundraising events; responded to media inquiries; and created newsletters and other communications to bring more individual donations and volunteers to IRC.
