The Employment Security Department (ESD) helps every Washingtonian be lifelong career ready and works to ensure that our economy has the talent it needs to thrive now and far into the future. I am humbled and honored to have been appointed by Governor Inslee to helm this agency and the exceptional team across the state to deliver on this critical and noble effort!
We are at an incredible moment in time right now with an unprecedented pace of innovation and I believe that Washington State and ESD, in particular, have the keys to how we successfully navigate these uncharted waters of change. For example: according to the Seattle Region Partnership, almost 750,000 new jobs will come on line in the next 5 years in Washington State. At the same time, while overall unemployment is low, we still have many who are underemployed, relatively low wage growth and higher unemployment among youth, minority and under-served populations. We have a lot of work to do, but we also have the right agency, team, and partners to deliver.
