I was appointed as the Commissioner of Revenue by Governor Patrick in February 2008.
In that capacity, I was responsible for the management of a 2200 person department, with
three lines of business: Tax Administration; Child Support Enforcement and Division of
Local Services. I was also responsible for representing the Department of Revenue and the
Administration publicly, in front of the Massachusetts legislature, taxpayer and tax
practitioner groups, Massachusetts city and town officials and civic and social groups.
Key responsibilities included:
Providing the Administration and the Legislature with updated economic and
revenue forecasts on an ongoing basis.
Providing the Administration and the Legislative leadership with policy analysis of
proposed tax law changes.
Management of a large agency with a unionized work-force, with offices across the
Commonwealth and multi-state audit offices in other states.

Oversight of a $150 million state appropriated budget, across three divisions.
Testifying in front of Legislative Committees with respect to Tax Revenue forecasts
and tax related law changes.
