About The Open University
The Open University (OU) is the largest academic institution in the UK and a world leader in flexible distance learning. The university was founded with a clear purpose: to open up education to all. Since it began in 1969, the OU has taught more than 2 million students, and it currently has over 168,000 students, including more than 7,000 overseas. The OU has more than 27,000 students with declared disabilities.
Over 70% of students are in full-time or part-time employment, and 78 companies from the FTSE 100 have sponsored staff on OU courses in 2018/19. The OU has a wealth of experience in delivering accessible learning ranging from its undergraduate programmes through to its higher, degree and graduate apprenticeships. The OU can support employers to gain the higher skills they need and employees to access flexible learning tailored to their individual needs. Regarded as the UK’s major e-learning institution, the OU is a world leader in developing technology to increase access to education on a global scale.
