Franchetti was confirmed by the Senate to become the CNO on 2 November 2023, and was sworn in on the same day, becoming the first female CNO and, due to having that position,[25] the first woman on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.[3][4][26][27]
In February 2025, Franchetti faced an uncertain future as reports circulated that she would be removed from her position as the 33rd Chief of Naval Operations by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.[28]
On 21 February 2025, she was officially relieved of her position by Secretary of Defense Hegseth.[5]
